Back in the days of exploration and colonization, sailing ships that were understandably armed against potential hostile nations and pirates, would also serve as the freighters of the day to the various colonies and islands. This scene depicts the arrival of such a vessel, with the landing party already embarked on the long boat, and the ship firing a cannon or two to announce their arrival, which was always an event to celebrate! This excellent lithograph depicts the moementous arrival and accompanying announcement, and has been hand-colored and framed to perfection.
