Antique French Louis XV Fruitwood Needlepoint Armchair ~ Fauteuil was sculpted in a classic naturalistic framework design but with more symmetrical carved embellishments typical of the transition to the classical style.  The subtly arched seatback is centered with a stylized foliate motif, complemented by the floral design on the front of the apron, with all other carved embellishment being the bordering and trimwork around the entire frame.  The majority of the visual appeal is derived from the meticulously hand-knotted needlepoint tapestry designed for this particular chair, with a colorful, classic design of an urn above and basket below, both brimming with flowers, and surrounded by fanciful scrolled and foliate framework in a vivid display of earth tones.  Even the armrests are padded with the hand-woven tapestry!  The sumptuous fruitwood creates the perfect framework for the artistry of the tapestry.
