This elegant 19th Century Country French Hall Bench started out as a trunk, then was converted to a hall bench by capable and talented artisans some time during the latter years of the 1800s.  The Rococo inspired carving appears across the undulating archwork of t he seatback, as well as across the entire trunk section below.  Scrolled arms add a touch of comfort.  Designed for a seat cushion, it was intended as a place for visitors to await a host or hostess, as advance warning of a visit was not possible except by messenger.
