19th Century Country French Garde Manger ~ Cabinet from Brittany was originally designed as a kitchen pantry, back in the days that it was thought fresh air circulation was a healthy thing for food items. Fast forward today when we refrigerate or cover in plastic and aluminum foil! Meticulously crafted by hand from indigenous fruitwood using time-honored techniques handed down from generation to generation, it speaks with a refined charm that is typical of pieces from the region. Spindle rails adorn the openings in the doors, creating interesting visual patterns, accompanied by hand-carved stylized floral and foliate motifs that appear on the bonnet, doors, and scrolled apron below.
