Pair of 19th Century Mythical Carved Walnut Sculptures for Bookends or Decoration depict a duo of chimera, half angel from the torso above and half dragon from the torso to the tip of the tail.  Such magical creatures were believed real by ancient Pagan civilizations, and were frequently used by the Catholic Church during the middle ages to attract the Pagan sects into the folds of the church, presenting familiar likenesses to which they could relate.  Originally produced as furniture decoration, they are perfect for adding an Old World touch to any decor, or perhaps to use as a pair of mirror image bookends in the library!

Circa 1850s

Each measures 12H x 4W x 12D
