19th Century Gothic Bookcase was made by famed maker Emile Laurent-Durhesne of Liege, and features a restrained version of the style, with linenfold panels the primary visual motif.  Exquisite detailing can be found in the finials and rosettes festooning the crown.  Glass display above includes a cubby hole for setting books and things while perusing the library.  Capacious storage is afforded by the cabinets and drawers in the lower tier.  Heavy cast brass keyguards with a fleur de lys motif add a nice touch to the visual appeal.  The shelves above are fully adjustable with an ingenious design.  Such magnificent pieces were reserved for the upper tier of society ~ those who by good fortune or breeding were able to afford both an education and the expensive books that would fill such a display.
