Antique French Regence ~ Louis XV Bookcase ~ Vitrine at first glance appears to be of the Louis XV style, but upon closer examination one notices the symmetry in the design, reflecting the transitional period between the Louis XIV and Louis XV styles known in France as The Regence.  Classic shell and foliate carvings appear atop the subtly arched crown, with the bonnet immediately below carved in bas relief with complementary shells and foliates.  The graceful arch of the crown is also reflected in the door design, with the upper two thirds of each door fitted with beveled glass to allow full view of the contents displayed within.  Subtly carved cornerposts frame the doors, which are mounted on exterior brass hinges to allow easy access to the four original fully adjustable shelves inside.  An undulating, carved apron extends across the width supported by carved and scrolled legs, but the lower door panels still captivate one's attention, with elaborate framework molding surrounding a study in shell, scrollwork and foliate motifs in fine relief.  Hand-crafted by talented artisans from solid oak to last for centuries!
