Grand 19th Century French Renaissance Open Bookcase is a majestic reminder of a bygone era, when displaying one's book collection was a sign of refinement and wealth!  This example was rendered from solid old-growth oak, and fitted with tongue-and-groove pine planks for the backing.  Hand-cut dovetails and mortise & tenon joinery were utilized, making it a piece literally designed to last for centuries!  A total of twelve adjustable surfaces plus the floor on both sides of the partition make for an infinite number of display possibilities.  The casework is defined on the base by three bun feet and a tailored yet substantial base board.  Three pilasters form the uprights that house the shelving, and are fluted with half-finials at the top.  The crown is most impressive, with bas relief carving across its entirety depicting fully laden grapevines with full relief busts of lions' heads appearing atop each of the three pilasters.  Bold crown molding serves as the fitting top for this magnificent piece!
