19th Century Delft Hand-Painted Blue & White Lidded Urn is a fine example of the intricately adorned porcelains from the Delft region in Holland produced during the 1800s.  The classic shape was adopted by the Dutch in the 17th century, and features a domed lid similar in shape to architectural features popular during the day.  Topped with a foo dog, the design pays homage to its inspirations from the Orient.  Cobalt blue was carefully hand-painted in an intricate design that includes floral & foliate motifs enhanced by elaborate borders, with painting appearing completely around the urns and covering the lid as well.  We've discussed a brief history of the evolution of the art in The Netherlands many times on this site, so suffice to say this is an incredibly well-preserved example of the epitome of the craft!
