Antique Hand-Painted Delft Tobacco Jar is an unusually colorful example of the breed!  Once the custom of smoking tobacco took hold in Europe during the late 17th and early 18th century, an entire culture evolved around it.  Such tobacco jars were produced to tightly seal the leaves in the container until ready for use.  The subtle earth tones hand-painted into the foliate and floral design with scrollwork resembling vine tendrils include olive greens, eggplant, copper reds and cobalt blues.  Survives with its brass lid for even more decorative charm!
