Hand-crafted from exotic imported mahogany during the 19th Century, this French Louis Philippe Secretary was the workstation of its day!  Requiring only a small footprint on a floorspace, it housed drawer space, a display and decorating surface, and a drop-down desk surface with hidden cubby holes and drawers to make it incredibly functional.  The flame mahogany imported from the Americas was used to great effect to enhance the natural beauty of the exterior, without all the fuss of bronze mounts, hand-carving or extensive molded detail, making the tailored lines a natural for blending with a much wider variety of interior decors.  This explains why the Louis Philippe style remains popular after well over a century and a half!
Circa 1850s.
