19th Century French Renaissance Desk is a superlative example of the Revival of the style during the middle of the 19th century.  Sculpted from dense, old-growth oak, it features a top with mitered corners surrounded by intricate hand-carved acanthus leaf gadrooning.  The upper tier is carved on all four sides, and on one long side conceals a full width drawer identifiable by the cast bronze bale pull at the center.  Corbels transition from the apron to the corners, which are carved with lions' heads with brass rings and accented by carved pendant finials.  Support is provided by two pair of beautifully carved urn pediments which connect to the "H" shaped base structure below.  The base features elaborate scrollwork with foliates and more lions on each foot.  A full width trestle spans across between the pediment supports, carved with acanthus gadrooning to complement the top edge for the perfect finishing touch!
