19th Century Country French Farm Table ~ Dining Table was rendered from old-growth oak by talented rural artisans whose purpose was to build quality that would last for generations out of indigenous materials.  Oak was plentiful, very hard, and quite durable, and was therefore the medium of choice for most regions.  This example features a solid, thick plank top with gently rounded edges to eliminate sharp corners.  The top is supported by more solid planks creating the apron, which is mortised into the gently tapering legs then double pegged for joints that last for generations.  The size of the table and the positioning of the legs allow someone to sit at the head and foot of the table, although such practices would have been uncommon in the days a table like this was made, with the French preferring family seating across from one another to facilitate conversation and interaction.  A single cutlery drawer was installed and has a recently replaced knob.  Such drawers kept knives and serving pieces handy for convenience.  Note the luscious patina and handsome grain of the old growth wood, sure to bring a smile every time you dine!
