Location: Baton Rouge

19th Century Copper Coal Scuttle was an indispensable implement found in every home during the age of coal heaters.  Coal was delivered to the basements, and brought up in containers such as this for quick access when re-stoking the fire.  Since it was "out in the open", craftsmen and metalsmiths sought to create visually appealing containers such as this splendid hand-made copper example.  This specimen features brass embellishments, and survives with its original hand-made scoop!
