Grand 19th Century French Louis XVI Painted Mirror is a masterpiece of the wood sculptor's art!  Rendered in the neoclassical form that dates back to ancient Greece and Rome, it features a rectilinear shape enhanced by upturned acanthus volutes at the bottom corners, projecting squares at the upper shoulders, and carved embellishment that is truly mesmerizing!  Bell flowers hang from the upper shoulders, and between the upper corners is a work of genius, with a floral wreath at the center fronted by the timeless torchere and carquois de fleche, or torch and quiver of arrows, symbolizing the longevity and power of the French monarchy.  Laurel sprays and ribbon are included in the work for a truly stunning effect.  Spiral ribbon bordering encircles the remainder of the framework even across the bottom, with finely carved egg & dart immediately framing the overly generous mirror.  The original painted finish, as well as the gold highlights that accentuate the artistry of the sculpture, have together achieved a lovely patina over the past century, only adding to the incredible allure!
