Antique Framed Oil Painting on Board by Antoon DeVaere (1900-1989) captures the mystique of the quaint little alleys of the old towns and cities of Belgium, with cobblestone paving and sturdy structures designed to last for centuries quite unlike what is common in the USA.  DeVaere has cleverly used colors and hues to depict a late afternoon setting with intriguing shadowplay and earth tones used to enhance the charming and varied architecture.  The high-pitched roofline is designed to shed snow, with abundant and generous windows designed to capture as much precious daylight as possible in this somewhat northern lattitude.  Survives in its original frame.
