18th Century Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by Holland School is a panoramic landscape with prominent contrasting features, rendered in the Dutch style.  The foreground is divided into the waterside composition on the right, contrasting the man walking along the country road on the left, with a darkened division created by a quaint cottage and lush plant and tree growth.  The water represents the ubiquitous canals that appear everywhere in the lowlands, and afford even today an efficient transportation system, symbolized by the simple barge being rowed in front of the stately manoir house at the extreme right, with its steps down to the water's edge.  At the center of the composition appears a small settlement with church steeple indicating a burgeoning but still largely rural civilization, with exquisite rendering of a cloud filled sky above creating a heaven and earth concept.  Signed by the artist at lower right, it has been reinforced on the back side of the work with new canvas, re-stretched and re-framed within the last 20 to 30 years.
