Antique Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by Leon Defrecheux (1884-1941) is a poignant post-impressionist work from the intriguing vantage point of an adjacent courtyard depicting the Bellfry at Vaison-la-Romaine.  The artist chose a typically sunny day with scattered clouds presenting various shadow play and enriching the natural earth tones of the palette.  Here Defrecheux also appears to be commenting on how nature is gradually trying to reclaim the land that has been populated since long before the Roman conquest of millennia ago.  Here we also note the ancient wall and well fountain as dominant aspects of the composition.  A touch of natural color in fresh blooming flowers appears at the top right.  Survives in its original silver frame.  Vaison-la-Romaine is located in the Vaucluse region of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur in southeastern France.. Vaison-la-Romaine is famous for its rich Roman ruins and medieval town and cathedral.  It is also unusual in the way the antique, medieval and modern towns spanning 2,000 years of history lie close together.
