Antique Framed Oil Painting on Panel by Dieudonne Jacobs (1887-1967) is yet another splendid example of the artist's preference to capture scenes in early morning or late afternoon lighting.  Jacobs has beautifully rendered the evening coloration in various shades of blue and gray with a hint of moonlight glowing behind the cloud cover.  There's also use of various colors in the immediate foreground to evoke a fertile valley with shadowy hills as a backdrop.  The bold brush strokes create an interesting visual effect.  Jacobs is truly a master of inviting his viewers into the scene.  Survives in its original frame.
Dieudonne Jacobs was born 1887 in Liège and spent his life as an artist between the Belgian Ardennes and the French Riviera, especially between Spa and La Garde (present day Toulon). He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, and became known for his inimitable impressionistic style.
Circa early to mid-1900s
