Antique Post Impressionist Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by P. H. Shott is a wonderful rendition of the genre, painted during the "Roaring Twenties" in a style that was designed to evoke more emotion than traditional works.  This example entitled on the back "Broken Wood" depicts a specific aspect of a peasant's home, who appears to be too tired when arriving home in the evenings after a long day's work to repair his favorite chair.  Shott has used a distinctive shadow technique with a beautifully chosen palette, then selected a simple, rustic frame in keeping with the composition's theme.  This work was featured in the Triannual Fair at Anvers, and was painted in the Citadelle of Boitsfort outside of Brussels, and is dated on the front and the back as pictured.
