Framed Gouache Painting by Jef Clerens (1875-) is another splendid example of the artist's work depicting charming, quaint European towns with cobblestone streets an architecture typical to the specific region that he chose as his subject.  In this case Clerens was painting the storied historical city of Bruges.  The artist has designed the work to lead the viewer into the scene via the aforementioned street, and to experience the quaint buildings all nestled together yet exhibiting unique characteristics that so endear such villages to us.  A delightful human interest is added set apart by contrasting blues.  The muted earth tones and diffuse lighting add nice characteristics to the work which survives in its original frame.
