Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by J. Gerard is a splendid work in the Impressionistic form that depicts two farmers driving two braces of work horses straining at their harnesses on the edge of the wood.  Gerard has skillfully used deft brush strokes and cool palette on top of the composition contrasting with the warmer earth tones of the bottom of the work for an intriguing effect.  The lavender and greige tones of the wood indicate an early morning setting.  Survives in its original frame.
