Mid-Century Oil Painting on Canvas by Gaston Quidousse (1938-1998) is a superb, subtly monochromatic study of a sandy beach scene, set in a contrasting frame.  Gaston Quidousse was born in Gullegem (Belgium) on November 12, 1938, and died in Houthalen (Belgium) on May 8, 1998.  Quidousse, known as "Guido" to his friends, began painting at the age of 12. For a living, he worked in Borrinage for two years, namely in the Sainte Cathérine coal mines in Dour.  He later worked as a woodcutter in the French Ardennes.  His life of hard work served to inspire his artistic talents.  Note how he has skillfully represented the movement of the waves on the shore, as well as the lazy flight of the seagulls above.  Survives in its original frame.
