Oil Painting on Board by H. G. Ontrop (1880-1955) is dated three years before the artist's death, and features a magical landscape with quaint cottages and just the suggestion of human presence.  Here the artist has deftly provided a transition between the lush greenery, bushes and trees of the foreground with the treeless meadow on the hillside and finally the rocky outcropping devoid of vegetation, which in turn transitions to the grayish sky with faint purplish undertones.  There are those that would interpret this transitional effect to the stages of one's life.
