Mid-19th Century French Louis Philippe Period Mahogany Sofa with Mohair is a historically significant piece representing the transition between the Bourbon dynasty and the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte's nephew, signaling in the beginning of the Second Empire. Gracious, elegant lines are executed in exotic imported mahogany, then embellished with a combination of grandiose foliate flourishes with neoclassical bordering and rosettes. Scrolled feet with lotus motifs are tipped with lions' paws. The entire affair sports a mustard colored mohair upholstery.
