19th Century Art Nouveau Period Statue of Cupid by Auguste Moreau entitled "L'Amour au Papillon" depicts Cupid enamored with a butterfly that has landed on his outstretched arm.  Cupid is also clasping the torch of liberty, and shoulders his quiver.  He seems to have forgotten his bow for the moment, being distracted by the beautiful insect.  Always depicting a happy yet subtly mischievous countenance, Cupid has lived in ancient lore for centuries as the instigator of the love affair, flitting about from couple to couple on his cherub's wings.  Spelter with patinaed bronze finish, mounted on marble base.  Auguste Moreau of the famously talented Moreau family, continued the traditions of his ancestors and relatives with distinctive works of art that have been often imitated, but rarely equaled!
