19th Century French Louis XVI Walnut QUEEN Bed is an exceptional example of the sublime furniture crafted during the waning years of the Belle Epoque that helped make Paris the center for the finest furniture ~ most experts agree ~ that the world has ever known!  Starting with hand-select sumptuous French walnut, the neoclassical architecture of the piece took shape, with a rectilinear design accented by a centered raised arch on the headboard and an arbalette arch (archer's bow) on the footboard.  Elegant molding details pervade the design in a spiral ribbon motif defining the head and foot boards.  Raised panels in several configurations were employed, with full relief carvings of floral garlands and sprays overlapping the boundaries of the raised panels in a particularly sophisticated display of woodcrafting skill.  The footboard commands attention with its sculptural centerpiece of a cluster of gardening motifs including tools, a hat, and even a pan flute suspended by ribbon, while the headboard competes with a woven basket bursting with flowers and flowing ribbon.  Plinth blocks with rosettes on the faces as well as the tops appear on all four corner posts which work with the rest of the design to create a definitive example of the neoclassical revival from this poignant period in French history.
