Antiques in Style: Living with Art

June 14, 2013 Leave a Comment Written by Inessa Stewart

Antique letter engravingHistory proves that trends come and go, but great art transcends the test of time.  Revered by countless generations and collected in multitudes of museums, these enduring masterpieces so richly celebrate the beauty of each period and so often embody the essence of reflective style. We marvel at creations from the old masters such as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Monet.  A beautiful still live, an idyllic landscape, a striking portrait – every painting tells a tale and speaks personally to each of us with stories and chronicles of each historic era.  Currently, it seems that paintings are as popular as ever. I hope that I can entice you to use antique and vintage art as part of your personal home décor.  Art brings a certain degree of excellence to each home’s design with the poetic soul of sparked imagination. Weddings with the Elegance of the Past

March 26, 2013 Leave a Comment Written by Inessa Stewart

Antique Letter EngravingThere’s something about spring that sparks in us a feeling of renewal and hope, and for great new beginnings.  The March issue of Grand Luxe magazine was devoted to weddings and the new adventures upon which couples embark as they plan the cherished ceremony amidst love and dreams.  If you are looking for antique inspirations for your spring events or weddings, below is the article of my monthly column as it appeared, plus many extra images from our photo shoot.  The original setting was the Dallas Country Club and the famed Tablescapes event last year.  My inspiration theme for the event was “Le jardin de rose Françoise”, and what could be more romantic than a rose garden ~ especially in the French style?  The antiques we used in this vignette were found on our buying trips throughout Europe – the antique painting from Italy, the jardinières from France, the 18th century buffet a deaux corps from Belgium, the antique china from Germany – all using a soft palette of creams, grays and powder blues.  The arrangements in this display demanded over 400 roses for the opulent look I wanted to achieve.

Antique Inspirations: Antique Tapestry Vignette

February 23, 2013 Leave a Comment Written by Inessa Stewart

Antique Letter EngravingHope your weekend is going well!  We have been so busy rearranging the stores and displaying all the new arrivals.  Just few days ago I took some time to set up and style a quick photo shoot.  As we were hanging a tapestry above an antique buffet that just arrived in our most recent container, a lovely still life setting developed, so we wanted to share the inspiration.  This vintage tapestry was designed as a portiere almost a hundred years ago.  These were used by the French to cover doors, draping them in the winter to keep drafts at bay.  It is trimmed in its original velvet with perfectly preserved greige tones.  We love the texture of velvet as it adds an unmistakable feeling of warmth to the design of a room.
