19th Century Country French Chestnut Armoire is a splendid example of the more restrained expression of the style, with tailored French scrollwork appearing in the panel frames of the doors, and otherwise rectilinear architecture throughout.  The multi-tiered finely molded crown officiates over the work, including the floral rosette centered on the bonnet and flanked by raised and framed panels.  A similar tactic was employed for the three  panels on each side, connected to the front with rounded cornerposts with three lines of fluting each.  With such simplistic lines, one can more fully appreciate the sheer natural beauty of the old-growth wood, which shows amazing figure.  Steel hinges and key guards add a nice touch, and allow the doors to open wide for easy access, or for viewing a flat panel TV if so desired.  The apron and legs below continue the austerity, with a Star of Bethlehem motif at the center in a floral style that is just as charming as the remainder of the piece.  Note the double pegged mortise & tenon joinery and hand-hewn panels of the back side, indicators of the relatively primitive tools which the artisans used to create this work that is destined to last for many more decades to come!
