19th Century Country French Louis Philippe Period Armoire is an excellent example of talented rural artisans following the lead of the styles established by the court.  In this case, the craftsmen of Normandie melded the classic chapeau de gendarme cornice and graceful scrollwork of their traditional stylings with those of the Louis Philippe court, which presented a more restrained design that emphasized tailored lines.  The result is a splendid collaboration that creates a commanding presence while at the same time a subdued style impact.  Medallion and egg shapes are centered into the panel work and scrolled molding for a pleasing visual effect.  Original outboard brass hinges and complementary key guards add a little flair while allowing one to open the doors wide to reveal a spacious interior with three removable shelves.  The inverted crescent moon motif on the apron below is flanked  by scrolled legs tipped with escargot feet.  Hand-sculpted from old-growth oak to last for centuries!
