19th Century Country French Stripped Oak Buffet from Brittany is a charming example of the whimsical furnishings for which the region is known across the world!  Mixing classical elements like the Greek coin motif across the entire drawer tier with a contrasting scrolled apron below carved with wildflowers and centered with a rosette, it immediately catches one's eye.  Even the sides are carved intaglio style with foliate flourishes.  The focal point, however, is the two cabinet doors, both framed with oversize, bold shell gadrooning, and each depicting a country squire on the left and his lady on the right, set upon a lush background indicative of the beautiful countryside of the region.  The top corners of the door panels are open via wagon wheel spindle motifs, in the interests of providing fresh air ventilation which was thought to be very desirable during this age.
