19th Century French Breton Walnut Buffet is an unusual example in that the master artisans of Brittany usually used the more prolific white oak for their furniture crafting.  This piece combines classical architecture defined by bold molding and tapered and fluted columns which serve as a framework for the intricately carved door panels, including the charming rustic family scene on the main center door.  A row of rosettes across the crown harks back to the ancient Greek coin motif, flanked by vertical rectangular acanthus rosettes above each cornerpost.

Circa 1880s
