Antique Belgian Serving Platter with Glassed-In Lacework is a remarkable objet d'art!  Carved giltwood framework with integral handles features a traditional acanthus flourish motif.  A splendid work of Lace has been sandwiched between two pieces of glass to create the visual effect.  Lace making reached its zenith during the 19th century, and the markets of Antwerp in its prime had hundreds of shops, some of which are still doing business today.  Lacing was also taught to young women of affluence and various works of the lacemaker's art were used to adorn countless wardrobes, both male and female!
Circa early 1900s
