19th Century Country French Tilt-Top Wine Tasting Table is a charming relic from a bygone era, when vintners stored wine in barrels in the cellar, and from time to time needed to sample the barrels to gauge the progress of the wine.  Small tables like this were perfect for the narrow passageways, and when no longer needed, the top would tilt up so the table took up even less valuable passageway space.  Today, it can serve as a convertible table, and works as a breakfast table or game table, with lots of leg clearance on the sides.  This charming piece remains in extraordinary condition thanks to the quality of the old-growth wood that was quarter-sawn and properly seasoned ~ techniques that are lost on modern furniture makers!
