19th Century Flemish Renaissance Barley Twist Marquetry Pedestal ~ Lamp Table is a marvel of the cabinetmaker's art.  Using several varieties of oak and walnut, and carefully orienting their grain patterns, the artisans created a very complex design in a very diminutive package!  The finely molded top features mitered corners, and the top has a checkerboard parquet pattern surrounded by zig-zag inlay.  The apron all around is angled and convex, then carved with foliate designs, with full relief lion's heads on each corner as if protecting the work.  An arched colonnade with pendant finials completes the upper tier, with four clockwise and counter clockwise barley twist columns providing support, attached to a lower shelf that has a similar design as the top, but with a compass rose pattern enhancing the checkerboard.  Egg & dart molding around the lower shelf leads the eye to the colonnaded apron with four boldly scrolled legs carved with acanthus plume and talon & ball motifs for a splendid finishing touch.  Although it works as a lamp table, it is most ideal for displaying your favorite bronze, crystal, vase or objet d'art!
