19th Century French Louis XVI Marble Top Library Table ~ End Table is an extraordinary example of the refined elegance for which French cabinetmakers are so world-renowned!  Carved from sumptuous French walnut, it features an egg & dart bordering around the top to frame the gray and white marble inset into the top.  Multi-tiered molding leads the eye down to the apron, which figuratively steals the show, with elaborate Greek coin motif where the coins are carved as rosettes amongst a foliate background, and framed with beaded trim, all carved by hand.  On each corner framing the aprons are plinths with rosettes facing both directions, appearing atop a final tier of spiral ribbon trim along the bottom of the apron.  Support is provided by four elegantly tapered, fluted and reeded columns with carved balls on top, acanthus plumes reaching upwards below, and situated on plinths that mirror the corners of the apron above, transitioning into carved vase-shaped feet.  Each leg is connected to the other via a complex double-scrolled stretcher trimmed with a double row of beading and centered with a sculpted flaming urn at the center.
