19th Century Carved Painted Lamp Table ~ Pedestal is a fantastic way to complete a seating group, display your favorite statuary or vase, or just stand alone thanks to its incredible hand-sculpted beauty!  Designed as a wine tasting table, its motifs include Bacchus as a cherub surrounded by grape leaves and clusters of grapes.  The figure forms most of the central support, appearing as a Caryatid which is a form dating back to ancient Greece.  The four scrolled naturalistic legs are lavished with fully laden grapevines, vines and foliates.  The apron around the oval top is pierce-carved in the grandest traditions of the wood sculptor, with intaglio carvings appearing even on the top!  Ancient painted finish has achieved a lovely patina over the past century.
