19th Century French Louis XV Rosewood Serpentine Armoire is a stunning example of the mastery of French furniture making during the 1800s!  Utilizing exotic imported woods, the artisans created a definitively French form, with triple arched crown, undulating apron and serpentine sides, all incredibly difficult to execute by any standard.  An exquisite Rococo masterpiece of sculpture adorns the center of the crown, with bold molding cascading down to the rounded cornerposts which then transition to the serpentine sides.  The same cornerposts are set at 45 degrees and are also carved with lavish stylized shell, floral and foliate motifs forming a corbel above and introducing the elaborately scrolled and adorned legs below.  Those legs also frame the amazing apron which undulates above and below, defined by exquisite molded detail, and centered with a relief carving that complements the sculpture atop the crown.  Each door is fitted with beveled glass mirrors that follow the intricate lines of the framework molding, which is also enhanced with foliate volutes on the corners.  Brass external hinges allow easy access to the voluminous interior, fitted with adjustable shelves, interior drawers faced with bird's eye maple, and bird's eye maple also used to cover the interior of the doors which protects the silvering of the mirror in style!  Note the full length double-cam lock mechanism with brass plate, a hallmark of the best of the best in fine furniture craftsmanship!
