19th Century Louis XVI Bronze Mounted Mahogany Writing Table by Schmit of Paris is an example of the Belle Epoque magnificence that gained France worldwide recognition at the end of the 19th century.  Founded in 1818, Schmit was at the forefront of what was then considered cutting-edge technology that utilized the burgeoning Industrial Revolution to power tools that enabled its skilled craftsmen to produce some of the finest furniture still extant!  Using exotic (and expensive) imported mahogany, the artisans first created a lavish classical framework that would make Louis XVI proud, then enhancing it with marquetry panels that create a three dimensional effect by using grain orientation.  Finally, the metalsmiths worked their magic in bronze, with finials and mounts appearing over the entire piece for a lavish effect.  This exquisite work, with two drawers for exceptional functionality, is destined to become an instant family heirloom!
