19th Century French Walnut Buffet in Henri II Neoclassical Style represents the culmination of revivals that occurred during the reign of Napoleon III during the mid to latter 1800s in France.  Utilizing exquisite indigenous French walnut, the artisans in this piece crafted a masterful architectural design, with boldly molded framework contoured with a stepped front center section flanked by broad, rounded sides.  This design makes the piece, although almost 2 feet on tape, much more traffic friendly to your floor plan with no protruding corners.  The plank walnut top follows the case contours, and provides an excellent surface for serving and display, and overlooks the four drawer tier.  The two outermost drawers are rounded on their entire facade, yet pull out straight front like the two centered drawers on the stepped front center section.  All four drawers are carved with a demilune pattern that includes a fletching motif, flanked by acanthus plumes, and centered with finely detailed cast bronze bale pulls.  The drawers are also separated by pyramidal plinths, and framed above and below with molded detail.  The cabinet doors below follow a similar pattern, but with different execution.  The center section is separated from the flanking rounded cabinet doors on each side by tapered half-columns carved with fletching motif, which also form the rear corner on the very outsides of the design.  The rounded side cabinets are more restrained, with a type of Greek coin overlay appearing above and below a simple raised panel.  The center doors, however, take a similar panel and adorn it with stylized crest, shell, and foliate motifs for a more regal effect.  A multi-tiered base molding with egg and dart trim most prominent in the design, rounds out the styling, all supported by bold bun feet.  Doors and drawers all open to reveal surprising storage in the bargain!
