19th Century French Louis XIV Bombe Marble Top Commode is a splendidly well-preserved example of the finest of the genre!  The bombe commode possesses contours in all three dimensions, even on the sides, creating an exceedingly difficult casework to produce.  In this example, we see the refinement of the style expressed in the manner that would make Louis XIV proud!  Starting at the top, we find an elegantly contoured and beveled top cut to follow the contours of the casework below.  The case is lavished with exotic mahogany veneer, with radial patterns emanating from the top on each side, and from the center of the front in a sunburst pattern with obvious reference to the Sun King himself!  Bordering is provided by satinwood for a nice contrasting framework.  The real stunner is the cast bronze ornamentation that makes this piece a showcase of style and flair!  The solid bronze includes intricate frameworks with an elaborate keyguard above, and a more traditional key guard below, with mirror image Baroque style pulls.  On the boldly scrolled cornerposts we see angels in regal attire surrounded by amazing detail work on the shoulders, with full length bronze coverage of the edge leading down to the bronze shoes that completely envelope the feet.  Truly a special keepsake, and an exquisite example of the typea!
