Antique Swedish Louis XVI Neoclassical Marquetry Marble Top Commode was made by the expert craftsmen at A.B.G. Lidner in Halsingborg, strategically located across the strait from Denmark near Copenhagen, putting the region in an ideal position for Baltic trade.  Many industries still call the city home, including ironically IKEA.  Thankfully, Lidner retained its roots in old-fashioned furniture craftsmanship, producing such gems as this keepsake, including wonderful dovetail joinery, magnificent veneering and marquetry, and hand-contoured and beveled marble with hand-cast bronze embellishments in keeping with Parisienne masters!  The design includes an intriguing casework with flared and mitered legs on every corner, and a step-front feature to the facade which the marble above faithfully follows.  French inlay bordering frames the meticulously arranged panels, with a heart walnut oval form at the center of the stepped front inlaid with artistic workmanship called marquetry, that creates a picture of a bird watching over her nest amongst floral and foliate motifs.  Bronze ring pulls with ribbon detailing complement the bronze accents on the lower drawer, the top of the shoulders and at the tips of the feet.  Two spacious drawers make it as functional as it is beautiful to behold!
