Mid-Century Embossed Copper Zodiac Plaque is a product of the storied region of Dinant, now in Belgium, where talented metalsmiths have practiced their art for centuries.  The official French name for the work was Dinanderie which was practiced at the beginning of the 11th century in the Meuse Valley, first in Huy and then in Dinant (the city from which this discipline takes its name). It is probably at the origin of an important tradition of liturgical silverware that spreads throughout the Mosan country and produces shrines, reliquaries, crosses, and other keepsakes.  The modern boilermaker industry has its roots in this history.
