19th Century French Renaissance Hunt Buffet in Stripped Oak is a more uncommon example of the genre, which usually is expressed with three or four doors, two tiers, and much larger sizes.  This example is more of a typical two door buffet size, making it more space-friendly for smaller rooms, yet ideal for certain placement in larger rooms.  The amazing detail in the sculpture depicts the spoils of the hunt, with a hare, game bag and grouse amongst oak leaves and ribbon on the left, and a lone snipe on the right amongst English ivy and ribbon.  The snipe's well-known erratic flying habits make them a particularly challenging target, and thus their name was given to the term identifying exceptional precision in shooting ~ the sniper.  Beautifully carved molding appears around the top edge and base, with clockwise & counter-clockwise barley twist columns framing the doors.  The drawer tier features diamond shaped rosettes flanking the drawer facades which are carved with stylized foliates and lions' heads, the latter of which serve as the drawer pulls.  Gently stripped using our proprietary non-toxic method that retains the natural patina that has developed over the last century and a half!
