19th Century Monumental Italian Renaissance Walnut Two-Tiered Buffet
The artistry and architecture of this museum-quality artifact are in a word ~ extraordinary! Sculpted from select Italian walnut, it is punctuated by acanthus plume corbels that rest atop tapered and fluted columns fitted with doric capitals. The upper tier is a continuation of the architecture and embellishment with emphasis on the superlative. Commissioned by a wealthy aristocrat, it was designed to captivate center attention in the room while glorifying the martial arts and classical history.  Each of six full relief panels ~ two on top and four on the bottom tier ~ are individual works of art and represent completely different themes and motifs.  This is a piece that requires hours of scrutiny to completely understand and appreciate the artistic representations set forth.  Upper and lower drawer tiers, as well as upper and lower cabinets provide functionality with surprising storage, all housed in a unique, one-of-a-kind work of the sculptor's art that will be truly an instant family heirloom for you and your descendants to appreciate for generations to come!
Circa 1840s.
