This 19th century French Louis XVI style armchair presents an elegant neoclassical form enriched with carved ornament, a painted finish and delicate hand-done needlepoint. The oval medallion back is crowned with a carved ribbon crest, while the curved arm supports are detailed with acanthus leaves above rosette-carved blocks.
Fluted tapered legs and a carved apron give the chair the refined symmetry and lightness associated with the Louis XVI tradition. Its antique painted finish is accented with touches of gilding and softly colored details that emphasize the carving.
