19th Century Louis XVI Painted Salon Armchair ~ Fauteuil retains its original painted finish, with a framework dressed in a soft grey white with traces of gilt highlighting the carved detail throughout.  The rectangular back is framed with a carved rope twist molding and delicate bow crest, the arms terminating in scrolled acanthus supports above a carved and molded apron.  Fluted tapered legs are characteristic of the Louis XVI style at its most refined. Upholstered in a pale ivory silk stripe with bronze nail head trim following the frame precisely.
The Louis XVI style represented a return to classical order and neoclassical elegance, its defining characteristics the refinement of line, delicacy of carved ornament and a lightness of form that set it apart from all that came before it.  It remains one of the most admired and enduring of all French decorative periods, its simplicity and grace translating as naturally into contemporary interiors today as it did into the great rooms of 18th and 19th century France.  A lovely accent chair that brings genuine French elegance and refinement into any setting.
