An exceptional 18th century Swedish Gustavian period bench, reflecting the disciplined elegance that defined the Neoclassical movement in Scandinavia during the reign of Gustav III.  Its architectural silhouette, refined spindled back, fluted legs, and restrained carved detail embody the lightness and balance for which Swedish design is so admired.
The proportions are generous and beautifully scaled, giving the bench presence while maintaining an airy refinement. It retains its original scraped finish, softly worn with age and rich in authentic patina.
Both the seat and back remain covered in their original linen, a remarkable survival that speaks to its history.  The upholstery is now ready for renewal and should be reupholstered, offering the opportunity to select a fabric that complements today’s interior while preserving the integrity of this rare 18th century piece.
A distinguished and authentic Gustavian example—timeless, elegant, and increasingly difficult to find.
Circa 1780s
