19th Century Grand Italian Hand-Carved Hall Bench is a glorious representation of the revival of the Renaissance style that occurred during the waning years of the 1800s. Crafted from richly hued Italian walnut, it features a rectilinear, almost classical architecture including bold molding details from crown to bun feet, but in between are works of the sculptor's art in abundance! The heraldic crest at the top, centered between arches, commands one's attention, presiding over a crown adorned with large rosettes, with carved corbels underneath helping to define three amazing full relief panels depicting stylized Romanesque urns with florals, foliates and dolphins. A pair of elegantly curved armrests frames the seat, which opens up like a trunk to provide convenient storage. The front of the seat features another three panels with more shield crests, a lion's head and scrolled foliates. Amazing detail!
