17th Century Bronze Mortar & Pestle is a particularly intriguing artifact from a bygone era!  Although cast during the early half of the eighteenth century, it features a prominent commemorative date of 1607, undoubtedly significant to the person who had it designed.  Cast in the same foundries that produced cannons and other heavy bronze implements, it was used primarily for pharmaceutical production, when ingredients were hand-blended and prepared in small batches, completely unlike today's robotic manufacturing factories.  Although it shows centuries of use, it has been remarkably well preserved, and deserves a place of honor in your home or office decorating scheme!
